New Books!

"The complete Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi: Here, in one volume, Marjane Satrapi's best-selling, internationally acclaimed memoir-in-comic-strips.Persepolis is the story of Satrapi's unforgettable childhood and coming of age within a large and loving family in Tehran during the Islamic Revolution; of the contradictions between private life and public life in a country plagued by political upheaval; of her high school years in Vienna facing the trails of adolescence far from her family; of her homecoming--both sweet and terrible; and, finally, of her self-imposed exile from her beloved homeland. It is the chronicle of a girlhood and adolescence at once outrageous and familiar, a young life entwined with the history of her country yet filled with the universal trials and joys of growing up.

"Bad Kitty" By Michele Jaffe: Jasmine Callihan, her father, and stepmother are vacationing in Las Vegas at the posh Venetian Hotel. All the 17-year-old really wants to do is sunbathe by the pool, write in her journal, and attempt to be a Model Hallmark Card daughter, all the while avoiding her perfect cousin Alyson and her Evil Hench Twin, Veronique. Her plans go awry, however, when a small boy and his cat make Jas a central character in a murder investigation. Soon Jass best friends come from LA to join her adventure and all attempt to solve the murder of Len Phillips, business manager of world-famous photographer Red Early. "Poison Apples" by Lily Archer: Alice, Reena, and Molly meet at an elite boarding school in rural Massachusetts. It takes them a while to realize that they've all landed there primarily because of their wicked stepmothers, but once discovered, this fact binds them in friendship and their shared desire to exact revenge on the new women in their lives during Thanksgiving break.

Attention **New Books**

**Staff Pick** I read this book and I LOVED it! If you like creepy, suspenseful, exciting, books with a little humor thrown in, read this book. It is the story of 17 year old Duncan. He just got a job in a subway lost and found. It is a boring job, and not the way he wants to pass his last summer of high school. One day while working, he finds a strange leather book, with no title. He looks inside and finds out, its the journal of a psychopathic killer! This killer is using the subway to stalk women that he plans on killing. Duncan decides he can find the women and warn them. When that doesn't work, he thinks maybe, with the help of his friends, he can find the killer and stop him. What if the killer finds him first? "Acceleration" by Graham McNamee. If you like to listen to books on CD, we have this one in that format also. ----Michelle Olson

"Beyond cool" by Bev Katz Rosenbaum. This is the sequel to "I was a teenage popsicle" Apparently being frozen for ten years hasn't made Floe any cooler... The next in the hot series about a girl whose life is really on the rocks. Floe Ryan was frozen at sixteen because of a rare disease. Now she's been thawed back to her normal self-but everything else has changed: her little sister's older than her, her teachers are holograms, and she's learning to drive a hovercar. Plus, with her boyfriend acting distant and having to deal with all the cliques, high school is becoming an even colder place. She's also learned that those who were frozen are susceptible to illnesses, and the one doctor who can cure them has gone AWOL. Floe must find him. But she's learning that someone might be hunting for her too-and she could be iced for good this time.

Can't get enough of vampire books? Then try, "Eight grade bites: the chronicles of Vladimir Tod" by Heather Brewster. Junior high really sucks for thirteen-year-old Vladimir Tod. Bullies harass him, the principal is dogging him, and the girl he likes prefers his best friend. Oh, and Vlad has a secret: his mother was human, but his father was a vampire. With no idea of the extent of his powers, Vlad struggles daily with his blood cravings and his enlarged fangs. When a substitute teacher begins to question him a little too closely, Vlad worries that his cover is about to be blown. But then he faces a much bigger problem: he’s being hunted by a vampire killer.

New Books!

"Dramarama" by E. Lockhart
"Sadye and Demi are two teenagers who are tired of their non-razzle-dazzle lives in Brenton, Ohio and decide to apply to the Wildewood Academy for the Performing Arts Summer Institute, run by a well-known Broadway director. Both are fans of Broadway musicals and Liza Minelli, whom they both adore. Their summer is one of friendship, jealousy, and new love. From "Cats" to "Guys and Dolls," this book tells all of the ups and downs of their summer, their new relationships, and just how hard the kids must work to be the actors they want to become in order to leave boring old Ohio behind them once and for all. "
"The Off Season" by Catherine Gilbert Murdock

"Where fantasy and video games meet, there is Epic. In a society where violence is banned, people must settle their disputes in Epic, at the same time that they are trying to stay alive in order to accumulate wealth and status in both the game world and in reality. Impulsively, Erik creates his new Epic character to be female, and spends all his allocated start-up funds on beauty and attitude for Cindella rather than weapons, but something tells him that this is the way to go. She and his friends' characters use a succession of unusual methods to save Erik's father from exile and to challenge Central Allocations, the representatives who run the game, and thus, the society. " "Beauty shop for rent" by Laura Bowers

"Abbey Garner, 15, has learned a lot from her hardworking great-grandmother, with whom she lives in rural Maryland. They run a beauty shop together, but Granny Po would like to retire and rent it out for profit. Abbey has mixed feelings when Gena arrives in town and arranges to turn Polly's Parlor into a successful day spa, but her ambivalence is quickly overcome when she reaps the benefits of learning about marketing, design, and finances from the newcomer while earning an increased salary. " "Camp Creepy time" by Gina Geshon.

"Einstein P. Fleet is shipped off to summer camp against his will for a summer of fun and fresh air. Stranded in the middle of the Mojave Desert, the eccentric boy soon discovers that the haunt is little more than an alien-run smuggling operation run by the counselors who are turning his fellow campers into monsters, with plans of selling them to an intergalactic zoo. Unable to convince anyone of the dire situation, it's up to Einstein to save the others and himself in the process.
